Stephen is a senior solicitor with over 20 years’ experience of employment law.
He works with NHS Trusts, private equity and private businesses in a broad range of sectors, including healthcare, retail, property, hospitality and fitness, professional and agricultural sectors.
Stephen has extensive experience in drafting contractual and employment documents and the employment aspects of commercial and outsourcing agreements. He defends employers in Employment Tribunals and courts covering the complete spectrum of employment law claims and disciplinary matters and has a particular interest in complex discrimination and TUPE claims.
He represents clients in mediations and works with Human Resources and business managers advising on the full range of employment law issues, including:
- reorganisations and restructuring
- collective consultation
- redundancy programmes
- outsourcing arrangements.
He acted for Serco in the leading case on the burden of proof in trade union detriment claims in Dahou v Serco Limited, has successfully defended an application for interim relief in the Employment Tribunal and obtained injunctions in the High Court for breach of employment covenants.
Stephen leads the firm's Investigations team and has advised on and undertaken numerous corporate and other investigations.
He provides training in many areas of employment law, including discrimination, NHS doctor disciplinary procedures, conciliation and employment law updates. Stephen also chairs a local HR networking group, the Employment Law Forum and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
